Nut Graf

The Nut Graf is a slang term for the sentence or paragraph that tells the story "in a nutshell" or in summary.  The nut graf answers the same who, what, when, where, why and how questions as the lead, but it tells more of the story and encourages readers to keep reading the entire story.

Most of the time, nut grafs are used in feature stories, but can also be used in news stories.  The nut graf is a good transition between the lead and the rest of the story.  It tells readers why the story even matters to begin with so they will want to read the entire piece.
