Self-Portrait vs Selfie

What is a selfie? 
What is a self-portrait?
Is there a difference? If so, what?
What style do you prefer? Why?
Is one more valuable/important than the other?


A selfie is a picture taken on your phone or even camera. Taken by yourself of yourself.
A self portrait is a picture taken on your phone or camera, that is set up with specific idea in mind on what you want out of the photo.
There is a style difference. Or there can at least be one, I feel like a selfie is just a mindless photo you take of yourself with little to no thought where a self portrait has more thought and you prepare for it. I prefer selfies because I take a lot and I don't ever take self portraits. When I see other peoples photos I like self portraits more because you can tell they are more thought out.
I think that self portraits can be, just because the type/feel of the photo. However there are some selfies that have actually broken the internet, like a selfie Ellen Degeneres posted on twitter. It was so powerful because of all the people that were in. It had many famous actors and actresses.


Here is a selfie that was taken in this classroom. I made cut outs of each others faces and mixed them up.
